The international Francophonie day will take place on March 20, 2023! This year, the Delegation in collaboration with Doctors of the World Canada, highlight this special day with the photographic exhibition SAKIFE: Women’s Health in Kivu, that will be presented for the first time in North America at the National Assembly of Quebec from March 6 to 30, 2023. In doing so, the delegation wishes to raise awareness of the Quebec population to the precariousness, but also to the resilience of women in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).

Through the committed eyes of the Liège photographer Christophe Smets, SAKIFE presents moments of life and snapshots that illustrate the daily life of the women in Kivu, a region in the east of the DRC. Pillars of their families and communities, they live an existence marked by poverty, sexual violence and globally restricted access to health care. The exhibition testifies to the precarious conditions of Congolese women, but also to their resilience. It highlights the courage of these women and what they put in place for their survival and healing.

The exhibition SAKIFE: women’s health in Kivu will be subject of an episode of the mini-series “Wallonia-Brussels and Quebec: 40 years of Francophone friendship”, of Radio Francophonie Sans Frontières. While waiting for its release, listen to the second episode with out Delegate, Sharon Weinblum, on the highlights of our 40th anniversary!
